Big News! Beyond the Covers is growing 🚌

Owning a bookstore has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am very proud of what I've been able to build with Beyond the Covers as a pop up over the past year and half - and I'm THRILLED to announce that Beyond the Covers is growing! 

A few weeks back, I found a 90s school bus that had been converted to a public library bookmobile on a government auction site. I decided to take a shot and (in what feels like a miracle)... I actually won! 

I'm on my way to Mobile, Alabama this evening (Sunday, June 21) - where I'll be spending a night in a hotel before Ubering out to the middle of Mississippi tomorrow morning to inspect the bus. Assuming all is well, I'll then be headed straight to the Mississippi DMV to pick up some temporary transit tags and then the closest diesel engine mechanic shop to get everything checked out to make sure it's road trip worthy before heading back to I-10 and making my way back to Houston. 

I plan to only drive a few hours every day so I don't overburden this little old lady (talking here about both myself and my bus), with planned stops in New Orleans and Baton Rouge on the way home. Drop a comment with your favorite Gulf Shores indie bookstores and I'll try and hit a few on the way back! 

The vision is to focus on underserved communities that may not have their own bookstore or library close by, and I plan to start with Crystal Beach. But before I drive it down to Bolivar, we'll be stopping at Social Beer Garden to throw a huge inauguration party and you're all invited! More on these plans to come.
