Tales from the road: Day 3, Lucedale Mississippi

Operation Bookmobile has hit a small snag - the mechanic spotted a big brake fluid leak and it turned out to be a busted caliper and kinked line. We got all excited yesterday thinking there was a replacement part right here in town, but turns out it wasn't quite the right fit. So now we are waiting for a part to come in from Atlanta (ETA 10:30) so we can get the brake repairs needed to get back on the road safely.

I found out yesterday that the bus tops out at about 50 mph going full throttle, so I'm adjusting my route home to avoid interstates and stick to freeways with slower speed limits and more frequent stops. I'm actually super excited for this shift, and am currently researching all the towns and national forests and landmarks between here and Houston! 

Also, as it turns out, the bookmobile does not have driver cabin air conditioning - so I'm definitely in for a hot trip back to Houston. I am happy to report that my very comfortable, clean, and safe hotel in Lucedale has very strong air conditioning, and I'm planning to soak up as much of it as I can between now and whenever I get to leave.
