The Montrose Center: Whether you’d like to volunteer as an individual or in a group, possible volunteer opportunities include special events, peer-led group facilitators, Hatch Youth mentors, SPRY Diner assistance, and so much more. The Montrose Center has so many incredible programs, including:
Hatch Youth: Volunteer as a mentor or event supporter for Houston's longest-running drop-in center for LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults (ages 7–24). You can also help with their specialized events and youth housing initiatives.
AssistHers: Join a care team to provide non-medical, daily living assistance (like light housekeeping, grocery shopping, or socialization) for marginalized LGBTQ+ individuals and non-binary adults living with illnesses or disabilities.
LGBT Switchboard: The Switchboard is a dedicated 24-hour crisis hotline for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by trained sexual assault staff and volunteers.
Montrose Grace Place: Serve as a direct mentor, meal server, or supply distributor during their Monday and Thursday drop-in programs. They focus heavily on affirming LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity (ages 13–24).
Tony's Place: Help with basic needs services, in-center drop-in support, and community outreach for at-risk and unhoused LGBTQ+ youth.
Trans Legal Aid Clinic:
Trans Legal Aid Clinic of Texas is a volunteer-run, non-profit, pro se legal clinic that assists trans and non-binary people who need help obtaining name and/or gender marker corrections in Texas.
The Mahogany Project: Founded in 2017 by advocate Verniss McFarland, The Mahogany Project aims to reduce social isolation, stigma, and violence and create safe spaces for transgender and queer communities of color in Houston, Texas.
Equality Texas Foundation: Work to secure full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Texans through education, community organizing, and collaboration.
Advocacy
Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus: The Caucus is a dynamic, membership-driven political organization with its leadership answering to the members. Seeking to influence policies and politicians in the greater Houston area, the Caucus works with candidates and politicians to develop positive LGBTQ+ policies and legislation. An all-volunteer organization, members work to screen candidates, decide on endorsements, and staff election sites encouraging the support of endorsed candidates.
Equality Texas Action: Work to secure full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Texans through political action, education, community organizing, and collaboration
Queens of Houston: A grassroots driven, organizing focused coalition formed in April 2024 in response to the tragic murder of Black transgender woman Diamond Brigman. Grounded in community resilience and safety, QUEENS OF HOUSTON proactively mobilizes around acts of violence, public health crises, natural disasters, and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
